As anyone who’s got a cameraphone, or has been on Instagram knows, people love showing other people what they’re eating (see Pictures of Hipsters Taking Pictures of Their Food). Which is why #yummy #brunch (really?) #food #foodporn are among the most popular hashtags on Instagram.
So, in a very clever bit of media placement, a Stockholm charity slipped messages highlighting the number of people who will be homeless and hungry this winter.
As always with these advertising stunts, I’m suspicious of whether it was the stunt itself, or the subsequent promotion of how clever the stunt was, that actually had the most impact. Surely it would have to posted by a highly influential Swedish food blogger to break through the sea of poorly-lit pictures of bacon and eggs at 12 o’clock and reach the relevant audience in any numbers…
But it’s a nice idea for a good cause, so I’m inclined to be generous (how noble of me). Good job chaps:
