This is a cute idea – iCukoo is an alarm clock app that donates your money to a charity of your choice every time you hit the snooze button.

You set a denomination of value for each snooze, and once the snoozes add up to £1, it’ll ask you if you’re ready to donate that amount. You can sleep on, firm in the knowledge that the world is a better place for your laziness:

The loose change charity buckets are a familiar sight at international airports, and they’re still a great idea. The sheer volumes of foreign unchangeable foreign coins that otherwise will sit in a cupboard somewhere can make a real difference to charities.

But other than the pleasure of not lugging around pointless coins (and doing some good), there’s not much in the way of an obvious reward in digging through your pockets at the end of a long flight, when all you want to do is get your bags and go home.

So Swedavia Swedish Airports and the Swedish Red Cross have developed the foreign change arcade machine. Ms. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Galaga can entertain you (or more likely your kids) while you wait for the bags to finally emerge from the conveyor belt:

As part of a commission for the Art Director’s Club of the Netherlands, Thijs Biersteker created a book that only opens if your face doesn’t show any signs of ‘judgement’.

Which is the most fantastically Dutch thing I’ve ever heard… ‘Guys, we are a super liberal country. We love canals, weed, all types of love, all types of lifestyles, and windmills. The only thing we’re closed to is people who aren’t open-minded.’

The book scans approaching faces, and if you’re over-excited or your face shows a skeptical expression, the book will stay locked. But if your expression is neutral (no judgement) the system will send an audio-pulse to the Arduino, the book opens, and a world of
bike-friendly art direction is available to you:

Gone girl

To highlight the fact that women still aren’t there in terms of gender equality, on International Women’s Day, the Clinton Foundation removed women from posters around New York:

I always like it when people play with buildings, street furniture or other ads, but the cynical part of me is wondering who put up the plain Rosie the Riveter and Mona Lisa posters. Still a nice idea though.
