I think the idea behind this video – using Youtube advertising to fund a homeless charity – is a really great one.
But I’m not sure I buy the stuff about the using the Youtube tags to game advertisers into buying space around the video. It seems to me that the ability to game the system so easily would be something that Google would have worked hard to crack down on in general, especially since it is essentially undermining the perceived value of the ad space they’re selling.
That aside, it’s a clever way of actually making slacktivism genuinely do good. Rather than ‘raising awareness’ watching a video, you are (indirectly) funding a charity:
