One of my favourite games of the last couple of years was the open-world, monster-genocide simulator The Witcher 3, so when I found out that the studio’s next game was called Cyberpunk 2077 I was happy as vurt boy in the dreamscape.

Obviously, it’ll look nothing like this trailer, but I can’t wait:

Going underground

If you haven’t played the new Doom remake, you should; it’s fast, fun and (obviously) incredibly violent. Big, dumb, surprisingly quality fun.

And now id Software, the developers, have added a photo mode, which lets you take create weirdly beautiful dioramas from frozen scenes. Add a bit of Mozart and you have a haunting, Saving Private Ryan-style vibe (except with Hell demons):

It’s incredible how good computer generated graphics are now. The water, in particular, in this cinematic for the game Hitman is absolutely beautiful:

Scott Benson‘s animated character work for the game Bad Blood feels like a mixture of Saul Bass and Genndy Tartakovsky’s Samurai Jack:

Because I am a massive nerd, I’ve always had a soft spot for the grim-dark, ‘In the future, there is only War!’, Warhammer universe.

Wayne England was an illustrator who regularly worked on Warhammer materials, and who (sadly) I only heard of because he died recently. He had a such a dynamic, chaotic style that I can’t believe he never worked for 200oAD (see, massive nerd):

Ghidoragh is a New Zealand chip-tune band who just put out their first EP, called Threat Level Ultra. But rather than releasing it on vinyl or CD they’re selling it on… 3.5 inch floppy disk (and digital download, but that’s less weird/trendy).

The design and packaging were a fun side project for the WETA Works guys (including our friend Christian Pearce), and has a rad 90s computer game cover vibe…
